Sometimes when I am writing a story a secondary character wants to take over. This time a cadre of seniors interrupted and won’t let go. The seniors of Skeeterville have stories that must be told. About 50 seniors live in The Friendly Arms Apartments. They are independent and a little ornery. Just being old does not make life boring.

Right now I am writing Amazing Gracie. When Gracie runs out of money, she moves into John’s spare room with orders to keep him from getting drunk and directing traffic at the four way stop. He escapes when she’s at bingo and a truck with a dead body knocks him over. The seniors are on a mission to solve the murder.

Skeeterville Creek is in mid-Maryland, named after Orville B Skeeter. The creek connects to a branch of the Potomac River (as yet unnamed in my fictitious world) The tiny town used to be a site for a ferry before they build the big bridge down river. The boat dock plays a part in this story.

It is amazing how much research is required to make up a story, but I’m having a great time. I can’t wait to introduce more of these feisty characters and finish enough novelettes to publish a nice collection.  Stay tuned as the seniors make the local news with their antics.
